4 Reasons why I Don’t Trade in iPhones and I don’t advise you

A month ago, in the midst of the sanctions, an interesting statistics appeared at one of the retailers: it became known that the Russians began to actively use the take-back service: in exchange for a discount, they handed over no only Xiaomi, Samsung and Huawei Smartphones, but also iPhone. Moreover, the demand for the service has increased since the beginning of the year and, as you understand, the sanctions have nothing to do with it. Amid the shutdowns, sellers have indicated they will be returning functional devices for resale, with the rationale that there probably won’t be enough smartphones to go around. The service has been looming on the sites of online stores for a long time, but I have never used it, I do not plan and I do not recommend it to you. Now I’ll tell you why.

Trading is a pain. Why You Shouldn’t Send Your iPhone There

iPhone trade-in discount

To your smartphone accepted for trade-init must meet certain requirements. They differ slightly from the sellers, but the main thing is the same: minimal scratches, no errors, the functionality of the buttons. An extra scratch may reduce your discount. It’s a discount: they won’t give you money for a used phone, but they’ll sell a new one for less.

Trade-in money is not given away, so selling a phone to spend funds for personal use will not work

In many salons, a discount can be applied to the purchase of services, accessories or other devices, but in general there is little attraction: this option is definitely not suitable if you want sell old iphonebuy a new one somewhere else or buy nothing at all. Also, a trade-in is not an option for those who need cash for a phone right now for personal use.

How to sell an iPhone?

No exchange will replace the sale of your iPhone on Avito: Sometimes, of course, it comes with a bit of a hassle when buyers are ready to pick up at a discount right now, but if not, there’s always someone you can strike a deal with. In the end, selling your iPhone yourself is always more profitable: you immediately cash in the money, the price suits both. Basically, you have nothing to lose.

iPhone SE 2020 is accepted for a penny in trade-in conditions – it is more profitable to sell it

There are difficulties with this exchange: the Megafon online store is ready to accept my iPhone SE 2020 at best for only 14,490 rubles (provided that the condition is excellent, but it is unlikely to fall below ). At the same time, on Avito it will be possible to sell it for 20,000, if not more. Therefore, a trade is again unprofitable, even with actions that you have to try to guess.

Benefits of trade-in

Win time – main plus recovery. You don’t have to worry about your smartphone, how long it will take to buy it – just bring it to the salon. Compared to the resale of an iPhone: you have to answer a phone call, answer a message, take the time to meet the buyer. In general, a little nervous. But that’s better than giving the phone away for a penny, knowing that the retailer will just resell it for a higher price and make money off it.

Your trade-in iPhone will be verified and resold with a nice markup

The only case where recovery is profitable – it’s the surrender of a very old device that was lying somewhere in the table. For example, the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6, which is no longer useful. But here too, the stars must converge for you to want buy a new smartphoneand the old one was still more or less in working order.

What to do with an old iPhone

I don’t know about you, but I find using the old phone till the end. In fact, it is not necessary to put it on the table as a museum exhibit: the old iPhone is suitable as a spare part or as a device for games, to store certain data that, for some reason, you don’t plan to transfer to the main phone or to a PC.

Trade in iPhones

I leave the old phone as a keepsake – sometimes it’s nice to dig into it

My friend, for example, keeps an old iPhone SE just for his personal collection: there’s even an iPhone 3G and an iPhone 4. Just for fun. The phone can still be used or given to someone. In general, inactive, if any, it will certainly not be lost.

To be honest, the current situation with Apple in Russia jeopardizes the recovery. Correct me in the comments if I’m wrong, but there’s a feeling now that’s not what return the old iPhone, but buying a new one is a dubious business. You can sell, and there’s even a way to do it right and quickly. But it was necessary to do this profitably 1-2 months ago, when prices even for used iPhones skyrocketed. In short, the iPhone, as stock traders say, should be “owned” and not sold. Well, of course, follow the development of events – suddenly everything will be better.
