Microsoft Edge VPN will integrate developed with Cloudflare VPN

Microsoft Edge VPN: Microsoft and Cloudflare have teamed up to develop a VPN that will soon be integrated into Edge, the Chromium-based web browser. This new function has not yet been made official by the companies, but the details of it are already available on a support page of the Redmond company.

This new tool will work under the name of Microsoft Edge Secure Network and will offer the same functionality that we have already seen in other solutions of this type. We’re talking about the fact that when enabled, it will encrypt the connection to protect users from tracking and Tipser attacks, and hide their location so they can evade website blocking.

Once available, Microsoft Edge VPN can be enabled directly from browser settings. Once in action, it will be identified by a shield icon that will appear to the right of the address bar.

An important point to note is that to use this feature, you will need to sign in with a Microsoft account. Thus, the company will be able to control the consumption of data, it will allow you to use up to 1 GB free per month. However, no data related to the online activity will be stored while using the feature.

It is still unclear what plans or payment options Redmond will offer when the free data quota is consumed per month, although there will surely be more details in this regard in the future. There is also no precise data on when this new function will be available; For the moment, it is only accessible to a handful of testers of the Canarian version, as part of a “controlled outing”.

Microsoft Edge VPN: Microsoft Edge will take advantage of Cloudflare technology for its own VPN

Microsoft Edge isn’t the first browser to work with a built-in VPN. In fact, Opera already offers this option since 2016; while Mozilla, the maker of Firefox, also offers a similar service in North America and some countries in Asia and Europe, including Spain.

The difference in favor of those in Redmond is that have the support of a leading company like Cloudflare, which also has its own VPN called Warp. This solution is also accessible for free, although you can enjoy it more by paying a subscription.

Additionally, Microsoft guarantees that the new Edge option will adhere to strict privacy guidelines to protect users on the web.

Microsoft Edge Secure Network is a service provided in partnership with Cloudflare. Cloudflare is committed to privacy and collects a limited amount of diagnostic and support data acting as a data processor for Microsoft to provide the Services. Cloudflare permanently deletes diagnostic and support data collected every 25 hours.

Microsoft on the new Edge VPN and user privacy.

As we have mentioned on other occasions, Microsoft Edge is an excellent web browser. The successor to Internet Explorer has made a monumental leap in quality since it was developed on the basis of Chromium, and in recent years it has integrated an arsenal of very interesting tools and solutions. There is no doubt that a VPN so that users can browse with more privacy, will be a very welcome addition.
