iPhone 14 Pro Core Functionality

iPhone 14 Pro Core Functionality: Function Always displayed was born in 2016 with Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. It seemed like a breakthrough at the time. The screen could continuously display certain information, most often clocks and notifications of selected programs, with minimal battery drain.

But when smartphones went on sale, it turned out that the battery loss is not so small, and the need for it, if available. Press to wake there are not any. And now the feature has reached iPhones.

iPhone 14 Pro Core Functionality

IPhone 14 Pro is already guaranteed to appear Always displayed. However, many users seriously doubt the need for such a function. Let’s see why you need an always-on display and why you probably won’t use it when buying a new smartphone.

Always on Display – iPhone

Before the release of iOS 16 betas, there were many concepts, but few people guessed the end result.

In a recent article, we analyzed all the most important changes that await the line iPhone 14. In a word, allow me to remind you that iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max waiting for a redesign of the screen. There will no longer be a cutout for the front camera in the form of an “eyebrow”. It will be replaced by a point under the front camera and an elongated notch for Face ID.

There will be a little more usable space on the screen, and using a smartphone with a similar screen is much more pleasant. I can say this from my own experience moving from iPhone X to an Android smartphone with a front camera in the form of a dot on the screen.

Under such a display, flagship iPhones will receive Always displayed. This innovation is confirmed by the new version of the program Xcode 14 Beta 4. When you activate “Sleep” mode, the lock screen wallpaper disappears.

Only the clock and widgets remain. At the same time, this and that significantly lose brightness. It’s unclear how new iPhones will display notifications. But, most likely, we will find out soon.

This innovation will be exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max who will receive OLED screens with a variable refresh rate of 1 to 120 Hz. It is for this reason that Apple plans to reduce screen power consumption with Always On Display enabled.

The benefits of this feature, of course, lie on the surface. It is possible to see the time, information about widgets and some notifications without activating the screen.

Still showing -Cons

There will be no colorful widgets on the lock screen in AoD mode.

But this mode also has its drawbacks. In my opinion, they far outweigh any benefits:

    • Battery consumption. To apple watch With the support Always displayed installed the same screen with a variable refresh rate. And hours not at all up to the evening. And if you do decide to sleep in them, you’re unlikely to be able to use them during the day without charging them. I personally know several users of Apple Watch Series 5 who simply do not use this feature due to increased battery consumption. The iPhone is likely to be in the same situation. If you want to use your smartphone to the fullest and not be left without communication, then you will have to give up the “always on screen”.
    • Poor readability in sunlight. Most of the time Always displayed we need it on the street or on the road, when we just need to see the time or some notifications. But the screen brightness gets so dim in this mode that you’re less likely to be able to read it in direct sunlight. Most likely, in any case, you will have to turn on the screen and display the necessary information in a more familiar way. The following follows from this point.

The brightness of the screen will be significantly lower than in this concept.

  • The screen lights up when the smartphone is picked up or notification arrives. Many users have the function “Get Up to Wake Up”. With its help of it, the iPhone determines that it has been recovered and activates the screen. In this situation, you won’t even see Always displayed. And the meaning of a function is to use it. Perhaps many after this innovation will turn off the “alarm clock”, but the question of which of these consumes the battery the most is purely rhetorical. In addition, each notification activates the screen, and there is no need to activate AoD to read the notifications.
  • Disabling widgets on the lock screen. iOS16 brought widgets to iPhone lock screens. Naturally, the information about them needs to be updated. And even with a reduced screen refresh rate, they will still load new data and show it to you. It will affect the service life more iPhone 14 Pro drums. There will be only one way out – to abandon convenient widgets in favor of the good old clock without additional information.

It is these moments that affect the fact that most users iPhone 14 Pro will not activate Always displayed on an ongoing basis. After the purchase, of course, you will want to try the innovation, but, most likely, in the future, it will be disabled.

Maybe on iPhone 14 Pro Max due to the larger AoD battery can be used more conveniently. But do not forget about the readability of the screen in the light, then decide whether you need it or not.

Rejection seems unbelievable Apple implementation of Always On Display in the standard iPhone 14. Even inexpensive Android smartphones can constantly display data on the screen, and one of the most expensive smartphones in the world will never be able to do so. But how else do you get users to pay more for really pumped-up devices?

True, only by limiting the functionality in the cheaper ones. Hopefully next year all iPhones will receive a similar innovation, and users will have a choice. The main thing is to remember that some disadvantages always hide behind beautiful advantages.
