This article explains How to Start a Secret Conversation on Facebook that is encrypted and will disappear after the recipient sees it using the facebook apps Messenger. Secret conversations are only available in the app Facebook Messenger on iOS and Android.
- To turn it on: Open the app, tap your profile picture, and go to Privacy > Secret Conversations > Accept > Secret Conversations > Turn On

How to Start a Secret Conversation on Facebook?
Before you can send encrypted messages, make sure Facebook’s secret conversations option is turned on.
- Open the Facebook app Messenger and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Secret Conversations.
- Tap OK.
- Play the slider under Secret Conversations to turn it on.
- Tap Activate.
Secret Facebook conversations can include photos, videos, and voice recordings. They don’t support group chats, voice and video calls, and you can’t use secret chats to send payments.
How to start a secret conversation on Facebook Messenger?
Follow these steps when you want to send a secret message on Facebook Messenger:
- On the screen of Chats, touch the pencil in the upper right corner.
- Slide the icon of the padlock in the upper right corner to the locked position, and then select a who do you want to send a message to?
on iOStap Secret in the top right corner. - Touch the clock to set a time limit for the message if you wish.
When enabled, a timer appears when the recipient opens the message, counting down from the weather what’s left before the message disappears permanently. - Choose a time limit for your secret message.
- Write and send your message. The message will appear blurred until the recipient taps on it.
Although secret Facebook conversations are encrypted, the other person can take a screenshot of your conversation and share it with others.
How to Check Secret Facebook Conversations?
All secret Facebook conversations are encrypted. Facebook also gives you the option to verify the end-to-end encryption by comparing the keys of the devices. Both parties to the conversation will receive device keys, which you can compare to make sure they match. To see the key device of a conversation on Android or iOS:
- Open a secret conversation with somebody and touch the icon information (i) at the top of the screen.
On iOS, tap the username at the bottom top of the screen. - Play your keys.
- Compare device key that appears under your friend’s name with their device key to make sure they match. Compare device keys in person or via screenshot.
How to delete secret conversations from Facebook Messenger
You can delete the conversations facebook secrets in your devicesbut you can’t delete secret conversations on your device addressee.
- open the app FacebookMessenger and tap on your profile picture.
- Tap Privacy.
- Tap Secret Conversations.
- Press Remove all the secret conversations.
- Tap Delete.
Access secret conversations on multiple devices
You can only access a secret conversation on the device you created it on. You can send secret conversations from another device, but you won’t be able to see any previous message.
When you sign in to Messenger on a new device, you won’t see messages from conversations former secrets. You will receive a notification in conversations past secrets that will allow you, you and the other participant know that you are on a new device. Once the device is added, you will see the new messages of the conversations secret on all active devices.
