How to enable dark mode on the Facebook website
Facebook’s dark mode changes the white and blue color scheme to a dark gray background with white text. Dark mode creates a darker screen that reduces eye strain (and saves battery):
- Open the Facebook website and log in.
- Click the down arrow in the top right corner.
- Click Display Preferences.
- Under Dark Mode, select On.
How to activate dark mode on Facebook for Android
The dark mode is not currently available to everyone on the Facebook Android app:
- Open the Facebook app.
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy.
- Tap Dark Mode.
- Under Dark Mode, select On.
How to enable dark mode on Facebook for iOS
If Dark Mode is available to you in the Facebook app for iOS, here’s how to turn it on:
- Launch the Facebook app.
- Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the bottom right corner.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy.
- Tap Dark Mode.

How to Force Facebook Dark Mode in Chrome
If you don’t have access to Facebook’s dark mode, there is a solution if you use a Chromium-based web browser, such as Google Chrome or Brave.
Enabling Dark Mode in Chrome forces you to enable Dark Mode on other websites, so only use it if you’re looking for the full Dark Mode experience on the Internet.
This method works in Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers like Edge and Brave, and it works on any platform that you can use those browsers on.
To force Dark Mode in Chrome:
- Open Chrome, or any Chromium-based browser, and go to chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark.
- Select On from the dropdown menu next to Force dark mode for web content.
- Select Relaunch in the bottom right corner.
Relaunching closes and restarts Chrome. If you’re working on something in another Chrome tab, save it and close it before clicking Relaunch.
- Facebook and other sites are displayed in dark mode. Even though the dark mode is turned off, Facebook still appears in dark mode.
Who can use dark mode on Facebook?
The dark mode is available to everyone on the Facebook website and in the Facebook Lite app. Although the dark mode is not currently available to everyone who uses the main Facebook app, the feature will eventually be available to all Facebook users.
